Born in El Dorado, Arkansas, but having lived in nearly every southern state at some point, Darren has been acting, directing and playwriting in collegiate and professional theatre for over two decades, working with such great companies as Theatre West Virginia, Jackson Theatre Guild, Playhouse Nashville, and the Roxy Regional Theatre in Clarksville, TN. Darren also starred in the outdoor action/stunt production Daniel Boone: The Man and the Legend in Harrodsburg, KY.
Darren is also a frequent playwright and an infrequent poet. Over the past several years, many of his ten-minute plays found on this website have been produced by theaters such as Playhouse Nashville (Nashville, TN), Roxy Regional Theatre (Clarksville, TN), as part of The Puzzle's 4th Annual Theatre Festival in New York City and most recently as part of Madlab Theatre's Theatre Roulette in Columbus, Ohio, in May of 2018. His full-length play SCARECROWS WILL NEVER SEE THE SUNSET had its world premiere in August 2104 at Playhouse Nashville in the Tennessee Capital, its Kentucky premiere October 30, 2014, in Lexington at the Downtown Arts Center, and was published by Steele Spring Stage Rights in 2016.
A member of the Dramatists’ Guild, Darren currently works as a Professor of Acting/Directing in the Theatre and Dance department at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. He holds a B.A. in Theatre from Ouachita Baptist University and an M.F.A. in Performance from the University of Southern Mississippi. Darren has also trained in Shakespeare and the Commedia dell'Arte at Bretton Hall College (University of Leeds) under the late John Hodgson and has been certified with the Society of American Fight Directors (unarmed, knife, and rapier/dagger). He is the Past President of the Tennessee Theatre Association and an active board member of the Southeastern Theatre Conference where he currently chairs the Playwriting Division.
Darren lives in Clarksville, Tennessee, with his incredibly patient and beautiful wife Allie, his angelic daughter Matilda, and the funniest dog on the planet, Stella.
